The Pizza Box Delivers a New Location at Getaway Brewing

by admin

After debuting a food truck called The Pizza Box at Antiques on High, the owners of Getaway Brewing in Dublin have added a second location! The pizza shop took over the small brewing space at Getaway and converted it into a little kitchen firing up pizzas, sandwiches, salads, and other goodies.

Getaway Brewing sits in Historic Dublin, on the north end of the busy stretch of North High Street. We’ve always loved the cool colors and the relaxed vibe of the space, with lots of greenery, big windows in the greenhouse room, and a giant diorama behind the bar. As the name implies, the brewery adopts a vacation theme, and its cocktail menu and international slate of beers plays that out.

Because Getaway is a sister brewery to both Seventh Son Brewing and Antiques on High, you’ll find beers from all three on tap. But I do recommend browsing Getaway’s menu, which ranges from the Tuk Tuk rice lager to the So Boho Czech pilsner to the Italo Disco Italian-style pilsner and beyond.

On this visit we snagged a High Tide West Coast IPA and a frosé – frozen rosé with strawberry and lemon.

The Pizza Box’s menu spans 9-10 pizzas, a couple salads, a couple sandwiches, and a few sides. Each of the pizzas can be ordered either thin-crust Neapolitan style or rectangular, thick-crusted Detroit style. (Although they can occasionally run out of Detroit-style crusts, FYI.)

We tried the Ezzo pepperoni in Neapolitan style, with mozzarella, red sauce, hot honey, and locally made Ezzo pepperoni, which curl up delightfully into little cups.

The vodka margherita layers a house-made vodka sauce with fresh basil, mozzarella, roasted garlic, and a dash of pecorino. The Neapolitan-style pizzas both had a nice char and evenly baked crust.

But as much as I loved those, I was even more sold on the Detroit-style pies. We ordered the sausage in this style. It’s loaded with sweet Italian sausage, mozzarella, red sauce, basil leaves, and Mama Lil’s spicy roasted peppers.

The Pizza Box also features a couple sandwiches, like this knife-and-fork meatball sandwich with homemade meatballs, red sauce, mozzarella, and ricotta.

Kudos to the salads as well, like the chopped salad with romaine, roasted red peppers, pickled red onion and banana peppers, fried chickpeas, Genoa salami, all nicely tossed with a house-made parmesan vinaigrette.

The Pizza Box’s offerings are all perfect complements to the house beverages. The space is geared toward hanging out for a while, with plenty of seating, a small patio, a shelf full of boardgames. So having pizza and sandwiches in-house is just icing on the cake.

(Also, I love these perforated pizza boxes that can be split into small plates.)

There’s also parking spaces along High Street and a garage attached to Getaway’s building. They’ll validate the parking for you!

The Pizza Box at Getaway Brewing is open Tuesday-Thursday from 5-10 p.m., Friday-Saturday from 5-11 p.m., and Sunday from 2-8 p.m.

(Remember that you’ll also find The Pizza Box at Antiques on High in the Brewery District!)
