Hot Dog! The Cheffy Dawg Cart Serves Up Hot Dogs at Local Breweries

by admin

Chef Jack Bennett, the opening chef for Cobra in the Brewery District, just launched a new venture this past weekend: Cheffy Dawg! Cheffy Dawg is a cart that Bennett cycles to different spots, featuring a small menu of hot dogs with fixins’!

Cheffy Dawg debuted this past weekend at Seventh Son Brewing, which will be one of its regular spots.

The menu is pretty straightforward: a classic hot dog, a chili cheese, an egg and cheese, and a weekly “spatial.” Because they were just starting out last weekend, they weren’t running a special quite yet.

They also offer water, a couple soft drinks, and canned OSO cold brew, created with Florin Coffee and canned at Seventh Son.

There was a small line opening day. Bennett moves quickly, but there was a small wait.

Worth it, though! We order a mix of the three hot dogs: a couple chili cheeses (one with diced onion and yellow mustard, one with mayo), a classic dog with cheese and ketchup, and an egg and cheese.

For the egg and cheese, Bennett cooks up a scrambled egg with American cheese in the pan, then wraps a dog up in it!

All the dogs were excellent. He uses Dearborn brand all-beef dogs, so they have a nice snap from the natural casing. I loved his chili, and the egg and cheese was nice and creamy. Winners all-around!

Cheffy Dawg will set up at Antiques on High on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., then on Seventh Son Brewing on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
