There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest news:
After three years in business, Way Down Yonder Beignets & Coffee downtown has closed. The breakfast and coffee shop, known for its New Orleans-style beignets, breakfast dishes, and coffee, was a companion to Way Down Yonder on the South Side, which closed and is potentially moving. The coffee and beignet shop was located at 386 E. Main St.
A location of the Korean/Chinese restaurant chain Paik’s Noodle opened last week at 5032 N. High St., across from the Graceland Shopping Center in Clintonville.
The owners of Granville Brewing announced that they have put the brewery up for sale. The brewery, located at 5371 Columbus Rd. outside of Granville, first opened in 2011. They initially had limited hours and bottled their beer for sale around Columbus, before later opening their own taproom.
House of Creole, a new Louisiana Creole restaurant, soft opened this week at 1026 N. High St. in the Short North.
The Mediterranean fast casual Cava announced it will be opening a Columbus location. It’s taking over the old Shake Shack space at 1370 Polaris Pkwy.
Bobby Jo’s Pizza announced they’ll be setting up shop inside Donerick’s Pub next month. Until now, they’ve been popping up at a variety of spots around town. Donerick’s is located at 5225 N. High St. in Clintonville.
Yappy Greek has opened a new location at 193 E. Campus View Blvd.
Bottoms Up Coffee announced that they will be moving from their original location at 1069 W. Broad St. after July 31, because their building is up for sale. They also have a location at 350 Mt. Vernon Ave. in the Discovery District; they took over that space from the shuttered Stauf’s location there.
Jack Dale, one of the original folks behind Cobra in the Brewery District, is launching a new hot dog pop-up called Cheffy Dawg this weekend. He’ll be appearing at Antiques on High this Saturday, July 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., then Sunday, July 20 at Seventh Son Brewing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Mikey’s Late Night Slice announced that it’s adding two new locations in the coming months, one in Dayton’s Water Street District later this year and one in The Galaxy at Polaris development early next year.
After being closed for renovations for a couple months, Cameron Mitchell’s Marcella’s is reopening in the Short North next week Wednesday, July 23.
A new discount grocery store, West Olentangy Grocery Outlet, opened last week at 749 Bethel Rd. on the Northwest side.

This Sunday, July 20 is National Ice Cream Day! A number of local shops are running specials, like Jeni’s introducing a new fudge topping. That day Johnson’s Real Ice Cream is highlighting the 75th anniversary of its Sundae Trail, in which all nine Johnson’s locations are participating through July 31.
The Germania Singing & Sport Society hosts its annual Duvel 1000 event this Saturday, July 19 starting at 4 p.m., with Duvel Belgian beer, food, music, and more.
The Ohio State Fair kicks off next week Wednesday, July 23 and runs through Aug. 3! It features all sorts of fun foods, including crazy deviled eggs flavors from the Ohio Poultry Association. I’m ready for my corn dogs and a ride on the Skyglider!
