Friday Food Bites: Modern Southern Table expands to Clintonville, Isla opens reservations, Twisted Vine opens wine bar

There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest news:

  • The owners of Modern Southern Table, which operates a stall in Budd Dairy Food Hall, announced they’re opening a second location in Clintonville this weekend. Their new shop takes over the former Wing Snob at 5179 N. High St. Their grand opening is set for Saturday, June 28.
  • The long-awaited Isla in Merion Village officially started accepting reservations today! It’s run by husband-and-wife duo Andrew Smith and Devoney Mills, who have been building out the concept through their Roys Avenue Supper Club. It features a prix fixe multi-course menu served in a communal setting.
  • The Twisted Vine in Grandview soft opened its new wine bar, called The Twisted Vine II, last weekend. The wine bar is located at 1816 W. Fifth Ave., and features wines, cocktails, local art, and more.
  • Justin Boehme, the owner of the bygone DaLevee in the Short North, announced that he’s opening a new food truck called JamJam. It’ll feature New Orleans classics with a twist, like jambalaya cheese balls, burritos, gumbo, and more.
  • Columbus Ale Trail Volume 10 launches next week Tuesday, July 1! Guests who visit stops and collect stamps in their passport have through the end of June 2026. (If you’re still working on Volume 9, you have through this Monday, June 30 to finish it up!)
  • It was announced this week that The Boat House restaurant at Confluence Park will reopen sometime this summer. It’s currently open as an event menu. An exact opening date hasn’t been announced yet.
  • According to multiple sources, Café Istanbul in Bexley has closed. It was located at 2455 E. Main St.
  • The Filipino restaurant Kuya Ian’s Bistro has rebranded and renamed itself to Laguna Bay Bistro. It’s located at 6863 Flags Center Dr. on the northeast side.
  • Multiple sources have reported that PJ Hot Pot at 6100 Sawmill Rd. in Dublin has closed and will be replaced by a similar spot called ER-GE.

Some cool events:

  • Thurn’s Specialty Meats is holding another special holiday pop-up sale this Saturday, June 28 starting at 8 a.m. and running until they sell out. They have a huge menu of bacon, sausages and brats, ham salad, smoked fish, and so much more.
  • Author and founder of Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey Fawn Weaver will visit the Lincoln Theatre on July 17 as part of the Love & Whiskey Unfiltered Book Tour. She’ll be joined by fifth generation Nearest Green descendant and the 4-time Master Blender the Year, Victoria Eady Butler.
  • Gay Fad Studios, a vintage barware store in downtown Lancaster, has kicked off its annual Bottoms Up show, featuring an amazing array of mid-century barware through Sunday, June 29.
