Friday Food Bites: Campfire Brewing opens in Westerville, Bexley Coffee Shop up for sale

There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest:

  • Central Ohio’s newest brewery, Campfire Brewing, opened this week at 6300 Frost Rd. in Westerville. The brewery is run by four Westerville friends who started homebrewing together in 2019 and sharing new beers around the campfire.
  • The owners of Bexley Coffee Shop announced that they’re looking to end their run and have put the coffee shop up for sale. Without a buyer, they said, the shop at 492 N. Cassady Rd. will likely close at the end of January.
  • The Buca di Beppo at 60 E. Wilson Bridge Rd. in Worthington has closed after 23 years to make way for a Chick-fil-a.
  • The City Buffet, a new Asian seafood buffet, soft opens tomorrow – Saturday, Jan. 18 – at 3670 Soldano Blvd. on the west side.
  • Prohibition Gastro Lounge in Powell officially re-opened last week under new ownership. It’s now owned by the team behind Opa Grill & Tavern in Delaware.
  • The Good Kitchen at 1485 Sunbury Rd. announced on social media that they’ll be closing soon, but will continue catering and will bring back their food truck.
  • Johnson’s Real Ice Cream announced this week that it is expanding yet again, adding another Powell store to 50 S. Liberty St. Johnson’s now has two Powell stores and a Pickerington store opening this year, bring their total up to nine locations. The new downtown Powell shop is set to open in April.
  • Charmy’s Persian Taste is featuring a Persian hot bar on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Hills Market downtown (95 N. Grant Ave.) from noon to 3 p.m.
  • Bubbles Tea & Juice opened another location this week, this one at 1257 Grandview Ave.
  • Dawn’s Fish & Chicken has graduated from a ghost kitchen in Clintonville to its first storefront at 134 Hamilton Rd. in Gahanna. Dawn’s features
  • Visit Dublin is offering a Love in Dublin giveaway. One lucky couple can win an overnight stay in a hotel, a massage, a bottle of champagne, and dinner for two at VASO Rooftop Lounge.
  • Speaking of VASO, from now through Jan. 26 they’re offering reserve-able, heated igloos as part of their tiki week. The igloos can be reserved through their site.

Some great events:

  • Charmy’s Persian Taste is featuring a Persian hot bar on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Hills Market downtown (95 N. Grant Ave.) from noon to 3 p.m.
  • The soup-centric fundraiser Souper Heroes returns to the Worthington Farmers Market on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Guests can sign up to bring a soup or just donate and sample them all.
  • 614 Magazine’s Restaurant Week returns next week, Jan. 20-25, with dozens of local restaurants offering prix fixe menus at different price levels.
  • Columbus Underground’s Sweet Treats Dessert Festival returns to The Kee on Sunday, Jan. 26.
  • In anticipation of their new restaurant Isla opening in Merion Village soon, Devoney Mills and Andrew Smith are hosting a preview dinner at The Lox Bagel Shop on Wednesday, Jan. 29. Hit the link to reserve seats for it.
